Coat of arms of Castel Petto, Teramo, Italy.

Coat of arms of Castel Petto, Teramo, Italy.

An important place for my family, "Castel Petto", needed a coat of arms so ... ☺️ Castel Petto means "breast castle". The place, like the whole territory, was deeply Christian. In heraldry the pelican is represented for its religious value: as Christ was thought to sacrifice. The symbol goes by the name of the ‘vulning pelican’ or the ‘pelican-in-her-piety’ and hearkens back to medieval days ( bestiary myths). It was once believed that Pelicans were particularly devoted to their young, and that a pelican would wound its own BREAST (‘vulning’) to feed its young its blood.
